How We Score & Review Tools

At ToolStacked, our mission is simple:

Help people make better software decisions with less research.

The ToolStacked Score is designed to give you a quick, easy-to-understand assessment of a tool's overall value. Our scores are intended to help you compare software more effectively, but they should be used alongside your own research and specific business needs.

Payment never buys a score.

Paid placements, sponsorships, and affiliate commissions never raise a tool's score. Every score follows the same rubric regardless of whether a vendor pays us.

Commercial Relationships & Editorial Selection

ToolStacked recommends tools based on editorial usefulness, not commercial relationships. Some tools we cover have affiliate relationships; many do not.

A tool does not need an affiliate relationship to be listed, reviewed, scored, compared, included in a Collection, or recommended inside a Business Stack. Commercial relationships affect monetization only — never eligibility, ranking, scoring or recommendation logic.

Paid promotional placements are always clearly labelled as such and are kept separate from editorial selection.

What Is the ToolStacked Score?

The ToolStacked Score is a proprietary rating system that evaluates software on a scale of 0 to 100.

Higher scores generally indicate that a tool provides:

  • Strong functionality
  • Good usability
  • Competitive value
  • Positive user experience
  • Broad appeal and flexibility

The score is intended to provide an objective starting point when researching software.

How Scores Are Calculated

Each tool earns points across six weighted categories. The weights add up to 100, which is how the headline ToolStacked Score is produced.

Features22%Depth and breadth of what the tool can do
Pricing20%Free plan, transparent tiers, value for money
Fit20%Who it's best for, real use cases, honest pros & cons
Ease of Use16%Onboarding, learning curve, beginner-friendliness
Evidence12%Screenshots, alternatives, tag coverage
Completeness10%Descriptive, categorized, well-presented

Scores above 99 are reserved for tools with strong pricing transparency, rich screenshots, and multiple exceptional signals — so a perfect 100 is intentionally rare.

Our methodology may evolve over time as:

  • software markets change;
  • new categories emerge;
  • additional information becomes available;
  • our review process improves.

Our Review Process

Every tool on ToolStacked moves through the same eight steps before it gets a published score and review.

1

Discovery

We surface tools through active research, reader submissions, and gaps we spot inside existing categories.

2

Data collection

Automated scraping pulls pricing pages, feature lists, and screenshots directly from each vendor's site.

3

Enrichment

AI structures the raw data into a strict schema — plans, tiers, trial length, integrations, and category fit.

4

Editorial review

A human editor verifies pricing tiers, product-line groupings, categories, and trial details before anything is scored.

5

Scoring

The six-dimension rubric runs against the reviewed data, producing a headline ToolStacked Score capped so a perfect 100 is intentionally rare.

6

Review generation

A long-form review is drafted with must-include guidance, factual-accuracy rules, and validation passes for every required section.

7

Publication

The score, review, comparisons, and collection placements go live together, so buyers get a complete picture in one place.

8

Ongoing updates

A weekly re-scrape and manual refreshes keep pricing, features, and screenshots current as tools evolve.

The ToolStacked Score is only one part of our evaluation process.

We also provide:

  • In-depth reviews
  • Side-by-side comparisons
  • Related articles and buying guides
  • Verified Results based on publicly available customer stories and case studies
  • Recommendations tailored to different use cases

We encourage users to review all available information before making a purchasing decision.

Independence and Transparency

ToolStacked may earn commissions through affiliate relationships with certain software providers.

However:

  • Affiliate relationships do not guarantee higher scores.
  • Sponsored placements do not influence our reviews.
  • Scores and recommendations are based on our evaluation methodology and available information.

Our goal is to provide useful, trustworthy information that helps users make informed decisions.

A Note About Software Information

Software products change frequently. Features, pricing, and capabilities may evolve after a review is published.

While we strive to keep information current and accurate, we encourage users to verify important information directly with the software provider before making purchasing decisions.
